Vaima Restaurant and Bar reviews
67We ordered the garlic prawns as an entree for $18 and it was literally 5 prawns! Then ordered the catch of the day as a main for $36 and the fish was so salty, the veges were super bland and it was very hard to enjoy. Food was very average for what you pay and I regretted dining here immediately after. Food took almost an hour to come out and we ended up going somewhere else to eat after as we didn't even want to finish our food.
AMAZING FOOD! The steak, pork belly and sticky date pudding were incredible. The drinks were strong as hell which gives you more bang for your buck and the servers were beautifully friendly:) Going back again!
Definitely recommend. My partner and I were in Rarotonga for 8 nights. 3 of those nights we chose to go to Vaima for dinner. Each dinner there was delicious and the staff were genuine, funny, and friendly. Many of the outside tables are right kn the beach and the views are beautiful. I really loved their Ika Mata and Seafood Curry, while my partner was obsessed with the Catch of the Day fish.
The 3rd time we went there was for my 30th birthday and they did little bits and pieces to help me celebrate, including one of the waitresses singing me happy birthday while bringing my dessert out. We were the last to leave and their patience letting me finish my birthday sticky date toffee pudding was greatly appreciated, as I was stuffed (and still am while writing this review) from eating all their yummy meals.
Thanks Vaima staff!:)
Love from NZ and Germany

Lovely, innovative food, excellent, friendly and efficient service. We had parrot fish, v tasty white fleshy fish with lovely dressing. Then key pie. Have one each, too good to share. Quitr acceptable wine list. Cut above anything in a resort. Owner knows what he's doing. He helped us get back to our resort after the bus didn't stop for us.
We had a table right on the beach.amazing location and atmosphere.the food was equally as good. I was keen to try the key lime pie but had no room to fit it in
This is just a great place. Dorothy and Cameron who have owned and operated the restaurant for over 20 years have created one of the island’s best restaurants. The food is exceptional - you won’t get anywhere better, and the staff, service and location are fantastic. Make sure you go!
Arrived at 6 without booking they gave us a table right on the beach with great sea views, had fries, fish curry, parrot fish and vegetables, creme brulee and pavlova all were superb and super quick arriving. The waitresses were all great and full of laughs. Not a lot of parking for cars but plenty for bikes. Don't forget the insect repellent!
Found this restaurant on our first visit and 3 trips later the food is still fantastic and the service is very good. We can highly recommend
Fantastic location.get there early to get a table on the sand! Food was really good, staff super helpful and friendly.
Beautiful place to dine. I had the curry and it was delicious. Wife had the pork belly and it was moist and tender. Sitting on the beach was a wonderful experience. I was originally concerned with how chairs and tables would work on the sand but it turned out to not be a problem. At sunset crabs populated the beach and were a delight to watch scurrying about.
Definitely coming back.
Good restaurant in Rarotonga, food was good, good view, try their fish/chicken curry and fish and chips
Great food pork belly was best ever amazing beach view and wonderful service
Will be back again
Yummy food and gorgeous location - tables are on the sand. We finally tried ika mata with tuna and it was delicious! Both our meals were yummy and quite large. Cocktails weren’t fantastic but ok
Had a very good dinner here, with an excellent Ika Mata starter and beautifully-cooked fish of the day. Generous portions and good value too. Staff very attentive. For some reason, the owner was shouting at staff in the background, within hearing range of customers. Aside that, well worth a visit.
A lovely dinner was had by all however the shine was taken off when we watched the waitress throwing the wooden “ reserved” sign multiple times at a cat that was wandering through.
I understand that the staff might consider the cat a pest but just remember that your guests may not.
I do not tolerate animal abuse.
We ate here 3 times during our 9 day stay. Outstanding service, outstanding food. Can’t rave enough. Only problem is they don’t open for lunch.
Amazing staff, beautiful setting and delicious food. Had a very good evening. 5/5. Lol and Jodie
Beautiful meals and very friendly efficient staff. Was a pleasure having dinner. Rarotonga has disappointed us yet
We had a lovely family meal here. The seafood curry, cocktails and key lime pie were delicious. Staff were really friendly and the service was fantastic.
This restaurant was recommended to us and I want to pay this forward! Such good food and service. We were a party of 6 and all of us loved our food choices… and the many cocktails!
I can 100% vouch for the garlic prawns (couldn’t share, get your own) and then the seafood pasta …. YUM
We are going back next week with a table booked at the front (beachside)
Cheers to the chefs and service team… thank you for a brilliant night?
